The Start Of Snowboard Addiction.
Back when SD video still existed and Youtube hadn't taken off yet, founder Nev Lapwood started looking for a better way to teach snowboarding, Snowboard Addiction was born.
More Than Just Tutorials
After teaching for many years and now bringing tutorials to a wider audience through Snowboard Addiction's digital tutorial platform & membership program, founder Nev still felt like there was more to be done for freestyle snowboard training. After many prototypes & bruises, the first version of our current Training Boards and Balance Bar were put to production.
While we often throw a little good humoured shade towards our misery stick driving mountain partners, the need for trampoline training ski equipment was clear. Ski Addiction was the natural sibling brand to develop alongside Snowboard Addiction, all with the goal of helping you ski better.
Expanding The Team
With steady growth and more than just tutorials in the picture, Snowboard Addiction was fast outgrowing its small team. In 2015, Nev hired Saxon Farnworth as chief operating officer. Saxon quickly started up in internship program after being hired and continued to expand and grow Snowboard Addiction.
Struggling to keep up with demand in 2015, Nev and Saxon got the chance to pitch Snowboard Addiction on the Canadian Television program Dragon's Den. Dragon Michele Romanow saw the potential in Snowboard Addiction and agreed to a deal. While the deal fizzled out before anything came of it, Snowboard Addiction gained exposure and built its following.
After deciding that our logo was in need of a revamp, we put the call out to local designers to show us how they saw Snowboard Addiction. After much deliberation we chose a new logo that we felt best encompassed our love of snowboarding, from tree runs, mountains and the playful side curve of a board this one had it all.
As Snowboard Addiction's growth continued to explode, so did our following. In 2015 we had the fortune of working with Canadian legend Seb Toots (Sebastien Toutant), who uses Snowboard Addiction Training gear to help him with his Olympic and X-Games wins.
DJ Steve Aoki got on board (pun intended) with Snowboard Addiction. With his own personal trampoline and foam pit, we took the opportunity to teach Steve how to throw down a backside 540 rodeo.
What About The Jibbers?
After designing the Tramp Board in partner with our local trampoline facility, the need for a more jib specific training board was apparent. Enter the Jib Board, designed with a slick PTex base for a more realistic jib slide on our Balance Bar, so our rail rat fans can practice locking in slides and presses.
Our Team of ambassadors continues to grow with the addition of French Canadian rockstar Max Parrot. Max threw down with us at our local tramp facility and continues to train on Snowboard Addiction Training products to dial in his Olympic and X-Games winning lines.
Global Hub Of Snowboard Education (& Employee Fun)
Now with 5 core team members, Snowboard Addiction continues to pry itself on being a hub for snowboard education with a single goal of improving your riding. Our secondary goal is to accommodate our own addiction to snowboarding with a rigid 20cm rule (plus an under 5cm rule, in case we're craving a pre-work park lap)
