Intermediate Summer Riding Challenge
Just because it's summer doesn't mean you can't challenge your riding! We've put together three tricks for you to dial in, so you can keep your riding progression strong all summer long. If you're a jibber we're going to challenge your spins, and if you're a big air junkie, we're going to put your presses to the test.
Summer Riding Challenge Trick one:
The first trick on the challenge is the press, both nose and tail. Bust out your Training Board or your rock board, so you can follow along.
(Narrating/Riding: Duncan Mainland. Film/Edit: Vince Emond)
The Nose and Tail Press' are great ways to improve your jib balance! You can add to the challenge by grabbing the tail of your board as you shift your weight back, to really push the movement and get low. Getting low will also make it easy to balance because your centre of gravity will be closer to the ground.
Summer Riding Challenge Trick Two:
180's with grabs. You're going to need a trampoline for this one, if you don't have your own, no sweat, there are tramp facilities located all over which allow our boards to be used in. Alternatively, now might be a great time to get friendly with that neighbour across the road with a trampoline.
(Narrating/Riding: Nev Lapwood. Filmed At: Whistler Bounce)
You might not get the grab on the first few attempts but that's okay, that is after all why you're practicing this on a tramp. The key to grabs is to be really compact in the air - try to make a solid pop and tuck in your legs underneath you in order to reach your board every time. Using a trampoline for practice flattens out your learning curve, giving you the ability to practice your tricks on repeat until you've mastered them. Follow this advice and you'll find yourself nailing the tricks with ease.
Summer Riding Challenge Trick Three
Our third and final challenge trick for you is the steezy Change Up. We saved the hardest for last but if you've smashed through our first two challenge tricks, you're ready for this one!
(Narrating/Riding: Nev Lapwood)
Start by picking your two tricks, you've just practiced your Nose and Tail Presses, so maybe you want to go for the Tail Press to Boardslide or up the ante even more and go for the Nose Slide to Tail Slide. Chose your own challenge here, once you've made your trick choice, the biggest challenge will be speed. Taking too long in each "section" of the trick is the most common mistake. For example, a 180 on, 50-50, 180 off (same direction) needs to be done in one motion, but on a carpet you have time to wind back up for the last 180.
