Ultimate Snowboard Workout EP 3: Sliding On Different Parts Of The Board
Episode 3 of the Ultimate Snowboard Workout takes your boardslides further. Nev Lapwood shows you how to slide on the nose, center and tail of your board, with ten minutes of follow-along drills you can run on a Jib Board or your full-size snowboard.
Your setup: a Jib Board and a Balance Bar. For an extra balance challenge, add the WTP Rail Extension on top of the bar for a rounded, narrower surface.
The golden rule: weight on top
Keep the mass of your upper body stacked right over the rail. Stay there and you hold balance on any part of the board, nose, center or tail.
Shift the board under you
- Start in a boardslide position on the bar and slide the board until you are over your back foot, back to center, then over your front foot.
- Go all the way from nose to tail in one move.
- Add a small hop at each end for an extra balance challenge.
Pick your pivot point
From a 50-50, twist 90 degrees into a boardslide on the center of the board, then twist back to 50-50. Then lean slightly over your front foot and pivot around it onto the nose, or shift weight back and pivot around your back foot onto the tail. Your weight placement decides which part of the board you land on.
Add lateral movement, both sides
Jump in from the side into a boardslide and land on center, nose, then tail, riding away forwards each time. Then go over the bar and run the same three from the backside approach.
Reverse the twist
Finish with the opposite twist so you face down the rail and look where you are going. From a 50-50, work nose, center and tail again. Then jump in laterally for frontside boardslides on all three parts of the board, and finish from the backside with back lips on the center, nose and tail. Add the WTP Rail Extension when you want even more balance work.
Take it to the snow
On snow, this shows up as real control: nose slides, tail slides and centered boardslides you can choose on purpose, plus the balance to save a slide when your weight drifts.
