Ultimate Snowboard Workout EP 4: Adding Rotation
Episode 4 of the Ultimate Snowboard Workout opens up a whole new set of tricks. Nev Lapwood breaks down rotation versus counter rotation, so you can choose to ride out of a slide forwards or spin out to fakey and keep the line going switch.
Your setup: a Jib Board and a Balance Bar. For an extra balance challenge, add the WTP Rail Extension on top of the bar for a rounded, narrower surface.
Counter rotation versus rotation
- Counter rotation: upper and lower body twist against each other, like holding onto something. It powers boardslides and shifties and brings you back out forwards.
- Rotation: upper and lower body turn in the same direction, like a frontside 180. It carries you out to fakey.
Practice both off the bar, then on it: regular boardslide to fakey, switch boardslide back to normal.
Backside boardslides both ways
Run backside boardslides out forwards with counter rotation, then wind up and rotate out to fakey. Follow with a switch backside boardslide to ride back to normal.
Nose slides and blunt slides
Bring in the slide positions from Episode 3. Nose slide out forwards, then nose slide to fakey and switch tail slide back to normal. Shift all the way over the back foot for blunt slides out forwards, then take your hands back and wind into blunt slide to fakey, with a switch blunt slide back to normal.
Lipslide variations
Get your back foot up and over the rail for lipslides out forwards, then lipslide to fakey with a switch boardslide back to normal. Repeat on the nose and tail.
Level up
Move to the WTP Rail Extension, or run the frontside variations: front board to fakey and front blunt to fakey.
Take it to the snow
Every slide now has two exits: ride away forwards, or land switch and link your next trick switch. That choice adds style and flow to every park lap.
