Ultimate Snowboard Workout EP 5: Nose And Tail Presses
Episode 5 of the Ultimate Snowboard Workout focuses on nose presses, tail presses and buttering. Nev Lapwood guides you through ten minutes of drills that build the balance and lower body control behind stylish, locked-in presses on any feature.
Your setup: a Jib Board and a Balance Bar. For an extra balance challenge, add the WTP Rail Extension on top of the bar for a rounded, narrower surface.
Move the board, keep your upper body still
Off the bar, shift your weight into a tail press, back to center, then a nose press. Then add a small jump and move only your lower body: board forward for a tail press, board back for a nose press, with your upper body staying put.
- Press past your foot, toward the nose or tail.
- Head up, arms out for balance.
- Flow from nose press to tail press in one motion. The same position powers your butters.
Ollie and nollie into presses
Ollie and land in a tail press, then nollie and land in a nose press. Small, controlled pops build precision.
Presses on the Balance Bar
From a 50-50, jump your lower body forward into a tail press and back into a nose press. Aim your press over the middle of the bar. Then flow from nose press to tail press, and finish with small hops that keep you in the press: nollie from nose press back into nose press, and ollie from tail press back into tail press, all while staying on the bar.
Add lateral movement
Jump in from the side, about a foot of lateral movement, the way you approach street style rails. Run tail presses and nose presses from the frontside, popping out at the end for style, then repeat from the backside.
Finish on the WTP Rail Extension
Switch to the WTP Rail Extension for frontside and backside tail presses popped out with an ollie, and nose presses with nollie exits. The smaller surface gives you maximum balance training.
Take it to the snow
You take away balanced presses with a still, stacked upper body, controlled ollies and nollies out, and a butter position that feels natural from the first run of the season.
