Lead With Your Body
Trying to force your board around in turns or 360s? Your snowboard is attached to you, so wherever your body goes, your board follows. In this lesson we show you how to lead with your body and let the board come along.
Align your head, shoulders and hips
Your body likes to be stacked: head over shoulders, shoulders over hips, the same way you walk down the street. Lead into turns with that whole stack and your board will follow. Do the same for 360s and you stay moving in one direction instead of getting twisted up.
Use it for ollies
Want a higher ollie? Think about doing the movement with your shoulders. Move them upward on the pop, then flatten out as you come back down.
Match your shoulders to the jump and hips
On jumps, keep your shoulders parallel with the terrain as you go up the takeoff and down to the landing. That keeps you centered on your snowboard. On hips, match your shoulders both rotationally and by pointing slightly downhill so you land evenly instead of on your tail.
Spin your body for 360s
When people try their first 360s, they often try to spin just the board. Spin your body and the board comes with it, the same way it does when you spin on your feet.
Take this into your practice next time you ride. Think about what your body is doing, not your board, and your riding will feel more controlled.
