The Ultimate Snowboard Setup
How To Set Up Your Board, Boots and Bindings
Setting up your snowboard properly is one of the easiest ways to improve your riding. In this full setup guide, Nev walks through the exact steps he uses when mounting bindings, choosing stance width, dialing in angles, adjusting boots, and getting everything aligned for both park and powder riding.
This tutorial was filmed in partnership with Nitro Snowboards, featuring the Nitro T1, Nitro Alternator, Team Pro Bindings and Select Boots.
Whether it is your first time mounting bindings or you have been riding for years, getting your setup right will instantly make your board feel more stable, more responsive and more fun.

Boards Used in This Setup
Nev uses two different Nitro boards to show how setup changes based on riding style.
Park Board
Nitro T1
A true twin with full camber for pop and stability. Ideal for riding switch, spins and rail tricks.
Freeride Board
Nitro Alternator
A directional shape built for all-mountain and powder riding. More stability at speed and a setback stance option.
Understanding the difference between twin and directional shapes helps you decide how your stance should be centered or set back on the inserts.

Choosing the Right Stance Width
Your stance width affects balance, control and stability. Nev explains how to measure your stance using your height as a guide, then adjust by feel.
General starting point:
-
Aim for a stance just wider than shoulder width
-
Adjust by one insert hole at a time to find what feels natural
-
Avoid going extremely wide or extremely narrow unless you have a specific riding style in mind

Binding Angles Explained
Nev rides 12 degrees on both feet for park, which helps with riding switch.
Your angles depend on your style:
-
Park: 12 / 12 or 12 / -9
-
All mountain: 15 / -9
-
Beginners: +12 / -12
Whatever angles you choose, make sure your stance feels comfortable when you flex forward and twist your hips.

Centring Your Boots Correctly
One of the most common setup mistakes is mounting bindings without checking boot centering.
Nev walks through how to:
-
Align the boot so you have equal toe and heel overhang
-
Visually check your gap on each side
-
Use the heel cup adjustment to shift the boot backward or forward
-
Rock the board edge to edge on the ground to feel if it is balanced
This single step improves control more than most riders realize.

Sizing Bindings to Your Boots
Nev demonstrates how the Nitro Select Boots sit inside Team Pro Bindings, showing how to ensure:
-
The boot fills the binding comfortably
-
The straps pull evenly
-
There is no crushed padding or dead space
-
The toe strap sits correctly over the boot shape
Proper sizing prevents pressure points and ensures power transfers into the board efficiently.

Strap and Forward Lean Adjustments
Once mounted and centered, the final steps are:
-
Adjust strap lengths so they pull evenly
-
Set your forward lean (if needed)
Forward lean improves response, but is not essential for beginners or riders who prefer a more relaxed stance.

Final Setup Check
Nev finishes by testing:
-
Stance feel
-
Balance in an athletic position
-
Edge-to-edge engagement
-
Overall comfort
A good setup should feel natural when flexing, rotating and dropping into your riding stance.
