How To 180 With Grabs On A Snowboard

This video is part of the series - Tramp Board Basics. Practice your snowboarding off the snow, so you can be perfect on the snow.

How To 180 With Grabs

Basically there is nothing new to 180 with Grabs, you simply combine what you have already learned with 180s and grabs.

Using a trampoline for practice decreases your learning curve. It gives you the possibility to practice your tricks over and over again until they feel easy. Then when you go to the mountain you can nail the tricks more easily than if you tried them for the first time on a real jump. This makes your progression way more safe, because you have the locked down the body movement and have muscle memory for all your tricks.

  • Start with Frontside 180s and Switch Frontside 180s.
    • The nice thing about Frontside 180s is that you can always spot the landing.
    • Try to add all the 6 main grabs: Indy, Mute, Stalefish, Melon, Nosegrab and Tailgrab.
    • As you become more comfortable you can start adding more style by boning out your grabbed 180s.
  • Backside 180s and Switch Backside 180s are a little bit different as you have a blind landing.
    • Make it as realistic as possible by imagining that you are hitting a real jump
    • Try to add all the 6 main grabs: Indy, Mute, Stalefish, Melon, Nosegrab and Tailgrab.

The Key to Grab

You might not get the grab the first couple of times but that is totally fine, that is why you practice in a safe environment on a trampoline. To get a solid grab you need to be really compact in the air - try to make a solid pop and tug in your legs under you to be able to reach your board every time.
