What's A Jib?

Jibbing is a term used in snowboarding to describe the action of jumping, sliding or riding on top of objects like boxes and rails. It is directly influenced by grinding on a skateboard. You will typically find this type of snowboarding done in resort terrain parks or in urban settings.

Why Is It Different?

When you're snowboarding, almost all the time you're using your edges to turn, control your speed and slow down. When jibbing however, you DO NOT use your edges. In fact, you'll want to keep your base as flat as possible with the feature.

Keep that base dead flat against the box or rail at all times, or else you will slip out. Like this.

Sliding OutAnd you probably don't want to do that.

How Do I Keep A Flat Base?

To keep your base flat, your body position is very important. If you put a little bit too much weight towards your toe edge, you're going to be creating that toe edge angle.

Toe EdgeA little bit of toe edge can cause serious problems when you're jibbing.

If you put a little bit too much weight backwards, you're going to be creating that heel edge angle.

Heel EdgeSo to can a little bit of heel edge.

When jibbing, it's very important to have your body position and weight totally stacked over your board so you can keep that base flat against the feature. For all our snowboard jibbing tutorials, covering everything from Your First 50-50 to 270's Out, check out our Snowboard Tutorial Membership.
