Snowboard Addiction Team Riders Connor Palahicky Won Showcase Showdown amateur division last weekend and we are stoked!
Connor Palahicky Wins Showcase Showdown Amateur Division
We sat down with our team rider Connor Palahicky earlier today and had a little Q&A with him about winning the Showcase Showdown Men’s amateur division. Here is what he had to say.
Q: So what did you do to prepare yourself for this competition?
A: Well it kinda sucked for me 'cause a week before the comp I sprained my ankle. So I didn’t really ride much or have much time to practice. I did get one full day of practice in before the comp, which was a big help.
Q: Did your ankle feel good for the comp?
A: Ya it felt good. I wasn’t trying anything new. Just tricks I knew I could land clean.
Q: The Comp was postponed due to bad weather, is that right?
A: Ya bad weather is an understatement. I think it was some thing like winds gusting up to 80km/hour and pouring rain. The judging scaffolding moved about a foot they said due to the wind. So not good weather to be jumping in that's for sure.
Q: So you were happy when you heard it was canceled?
A: I wasn’t complaining that's for sure. Haha.
Q: What did you do that after that?
A: Rested. Had a really good sleep. Wanted to be in good condition for the comp.
Q: How was the contest scored and how did you let it play into your favor?
A: So you got to do three runs and they combined your best two scores. One run had to be style and the other tech. I am not that good at throwing crazy tech tricks so I was stoked to hear that there was a style run. I was also stoked I wasn’t in the pro category where you had to throw at least a 1080 to get any sort of recognition. I just wanted to land my runs as clean as possible and not put a hand down.
Q: What did you do for your runs?
A: For style I did back 540 stalefish to melon grab and tech I just did a rodeo.
Q: What was you reaction when you found out you won?
A: Ya I was so pumped. I got a friend who just got diagnosed with cancer and my friend’s brother is in the hospital aswell. So I really wanted to win it for them. They defiantly gave me a drive to win.
Q: Were they stoked for you?
A: Ya they seemed pretty pumped. Haha.
Q: Overall how was the experience?
A: Could not be happier with the result. I’m not really a contest kid so it’s rare for me to win. I made sure to take it all in cause it may never happen again. Haha.
Q: What are your plans for the remainder of the season?
A: I’ll be finishing filming for my full part which I’m really exited for. I might be doing another couple contest but nothing is set in stone. Hopefully rip some good pow if we get it.
Q: Any last shoutouts?
A: Ya thanks to everyone that supported me. To all the other riders, everyone killed it. And a huge shout out to Chris and John we are all praying for you guys to get better.
